Using Custom Art Framing for Wall Decals
Custom art framing can be the difference between an eye-catching work of art and a disappointment in decoration, no matter what the medium is. However, for using wall decals, framing is the difference between a piece that looks pasted to a wall, and an exquisitely designed piece of artwork. Look around at how photographs and paintings are traditionally framed, and compare that to more modern methods of framing. This will open up your mind to the variations available and allow you to explore your creativity. This can give importance to simple butterfly wall decals although you can also apply the same framing rules to shots you take with a canon lens.
One creative way of framing wall decals doesn’t actually use frames at all, it uses paint. A wall will be painted in five different sections. From about halfway up the wall, to three-quarters of the way up will be the main background. This is the supporting wall color for your decals. On either side, above and below this section will be a one-inch strip of white paint. The rest of the wall above and below will be painted a complementary color to the main section, but it should be a light color that doesn’t distract the eye. You might end up with a beige wall that has a horizontal blue strip where you will place your decals. Think of this as a running horizontal frame for the entire wall.
Another way to create custom art framing for your wall decals is with custom-cut strips of wood. These can be nailed to a wall in the shape of a traditional frame, or in any style of grid. For extra creativity, try something similar to a column of three frames. Next to it and off-set half a frames width up would be another column. Next to that would be the last column, centered between the previous two columns. This style of vertical off-setting adds a modern touch to any framing setup. Then, the wall inside each section can be painted separately, and the decals placed inside.
