Thailand – Koh Phi Phi Weather

If you are making plans to visit Koh Phi Phi (or Phi Phi Island in the Andaman sea, on the west coast of Thailand near Phuket 48 kms. The beautiful twin islands of Koh Phi-Phi are Koh Phi-Phi Don and Koh Phi-Phi Leh) then knowing a bit about the weather will help you choose the perfect time of year to come. As a tropical island it does have several seasons and every month is not ideal, so take a moment to learn about the different seasons of Koh Phi Phi.

The three seasons you will encounter are the hot season lasting from mid-March through May, the rainy season which starts in June and ends in October and the cool dry season from November through mid-March.

While you might think coming during the hot season is a bad idea, it does have several redeeming points. First off, if you don’t mind the heat then there’s no reason to be put off. By hot I mean around 100 degrees during the day and humidity approaching 100%. You can easily deal with this by participating in water activities, drinking plenty of water yourself and using plenty of sun screen. You will also find that prices in the hotels and restaurants are typically cheaper during the hot season, giving you another reason to visit during these months.

While the rainy season may not be ideal, you will also find cheaper prices during this time as well as cooler temperatures. Plus, it doesn’t rain everyday and when it does rain it is usually short (30-60 minute) tropical type storms. The majority of the rain falls in the evening and night anyway, so many times your day time activities won’t be impacted.

There’s no doubt that the cool dry season is the best time to come to Koh Phi Phi. Temperatures are more moderate in the low 80′s to low 90′s and rain is basically non-existent. On the negative side, prices are generally double that of other times of the year and in some cases even higher. If price is no object though then you will definitely want to plan your Phi Phi vacation during the months of December through February to have the best weather.

The good thing is that no matter what season you choose to come and visit you will definitely have an unforgettable experience on Koh Phi Phi.
