Juicing Benefits – Bitter Melon Juice for Diabetes

Bitter melon is a fruit that grows in the tropical regions of South America, East Africa and Asia. In traditional Chinese medicine and the Ayurvedic method of natural medicine in India, bitter melon has been used for centuries as a treatment for diabetes. However, herbal medicine and homeopathy practitioners here in the West have only recently discovered this fruit and its healing effects.

So how does it work? There has been a handful of studies conducted so far that all show evidence that bitter melon reduces the amount of sugar in our blood when we eat/drink this fruit. Researchers say that the evidence so far points out that bitter melon increases the production of enzymes in the blood stream that convert glucose (sugar) into glycogen which is then stored in the liver to be used for energy later.

One of these studies was conducted for 2 days in India with 100 willing participants who suffer with diabetes type 2. On the second day, the participants were given 150 -200 ml of bitter melon extract in the morning time before breakfast while their bodies was in state of fasting as no food had been consumed since the evening before. Before administering the bitter melon extract the participants were also given a drink containing pure glucose. Compared with the day before, when no bitter melon extract was administered, the participants displayed a 14% drop in blood glucose levels! That is a significant figure and can make a huge difference for diabetics trying to manage their symptoms.

Amp Up The Benefits With Juice
Although taking a teaspoon of bitter melon extract each day is one recommended method for managing diabetes, American herbalists also recommend the juicing benefits of bitter melon for diabetes. For the best effects the recommended dosage is about 1/2 cup of bitter melon juice per day. For more information about juicing and diabetes visit juicing for diabetes.
