Don’t’ Forget to Test Your Fire Alarms

In order to avoid catastrophic injuries from a house fire, you need to have an escape plan which you have thoroughly discussed with your family and practiced or drilled regularly. A home escape is as essential as a home security alarm system. It is vital to understand the life-saving effects of having gone through a fire safety checklist as well. There are many key factors that you can observe to avoid fire incidence. Some of them are as follows:

o Be sure to have smoke detectors in major areas of your house particularly the sleeping areas. If you have multi-storey house, install one smoke detector in each floor. Keep a scheduled testing time for your smoke detectors to ensure they are all functional.
o A home security floor plan for fire incidents that is thoroughly discussed and understood by each family member must be in place. Identify a space for fire exit and a place where you and your family can safely meet. Each family member must commit to follow the identified floor plan for security reasons.

o Do not ever back to a burning house to take things out because of the pressing danger ahead.

o Immediately call for help.
Normally, it will take just a few minutes to install the alarm. You want to have it incorporated in your home security system so that when the alarm blows off, a message will be alerted to you. This is better than a localized smoke alarm where no one knows if fire has started. The beauty of an integrated smoke detector is that it actually gives you time to act. The fire alarm must be tested consistently to see if it’s functioning. In general, it must be done once a week by pressing the test button. You can have uninterrupted battery usage for a year but it is advised that every ten years, you must change your smoke alarm.
