Choosing Color for a Traditional Dining Room

Paint is one of the easiest ways to add a little bit of a formal touch to a traditional dining room. Since these rooms are small there are a lot of different color considerations that you need to take into account. This is an easy way to transform your room and just give everything a little bit more of a sophisticated kind of look like a beach kitchen design.

Consider going with dramatic colors. This could be a dark purple or red so that classic glass really pops. This is really going to be very contemporary or formal depending on how you style the rest of the room. However, when you do go with these kinds of colors you can make things seem a little bit smaller. A great way to break this up is with molding. For more of a casual look you could go with a wainscoting. This could break up at least half the wall or even two thirds of the wall. The really great thing about this is that then you can use a bolder kind of color just because the wainscoting can still be in neutral colors such as black, white, brown, or tan.

You can also use color to create a theme. If you want a very elegant kind of space then you can really focus in on crystals. If you look at them carefully you’ll see that the glass has a lot of different colors to it including kind of a teal blue. This can be reminiscent of beautiful damask kind of fabrics or nature. It’s very sophisticated and a trendy kind of color but it can still give you a dramatic look. Try pairing it with dark brown furniture and then tie everything together with a blue and brown curtain. This is a cleaner way to do a traditional kind of room because it just has a little bit more of a casual vibe to it but is still uses high end materials.
