Chooing A Cat Litter Box That Works

Cat litter boxes can be large or small, pretty or utilitarian, simple or complex, moderately priced or expensive. There exists a perfect litter box for every cat and cat-owner. The problem is, given such a wide range of cat litter boxes to choose from, how do cat owners decide which ones best suit them and their cats?

The best way to answer this question is to consider one’s situation and needs as well as those of the cat. Obviously, the primary determining factor will be the budget. The maximum amount of money that one is willing and able to spend on a litter-box will either limit or broaden the range of possibilities. A cat-owner subsisting on a minimum wage income is likely not going to want to consider the latest (and surely most expensive) in cat litter box technology. By comparison, a cat owner with plenty of disposable income might think it worth his while to buy the latest gadgets for his cat and might even consider having a litter box custom-made for his cat and finished to match his penthouse suite’s interior decor.

There are other basic considerations to be borne in mind when choosing a litter box for one’s cat. One of them is the size of one’s living space. If one has a huge house with plenty of rooms, then there may be numerous options for litter box placement. In such a case, the size of the litter box might not be a limiting factor. If, on the other hand, one lives in a studio apartment, then there may only be one or two ideal spots to place the litter box. In this latter case, the ideal litter box would have to be able to fit into the appropriate spaces.

The number of cats that one has also comes into play. The more cats that one owns, the more litter boxes that one will need. This is because cats value their privacy and their litter box territory greatly. They do not like to relieve themselves where other cats have previously relieved themselves. So each cat would have to have its own litter box.

The ideal shape for the litter box would be determined by factors like the presence of other pets in the home. For instance one would want to be sure that a pet dog would not be able to gain access to the cat litter boxes.
