Republic Day, celebrated on January 26th every year, is one of India’s most important national events. It was on January 26th, 1950 that the constitution of India came into force and India became a truly Sovereign, Democratic and Republic state. On this day, India finally enjoyed the freedom of spirit, rule of law and fundamental principle of governance. The patriotic fervor of the Indian people on this day brings the whole country together even in her embedded diversity.

Republic Day is a people’s day in a variety of ways:

It’s when regional identity takes a backseat and what matters most is the universal appeal of unity and brotherhood projected by all Indians. The Indian constitution basically stands for the aspirations which ‘the common man of India’ cherishes.

Republic Day is a day of the citizen of the country when he is entitled to be ‘all supreme. Republic Day is celebrated most majestically in the capital, New Delhi, where symbols of the great nation’s military might and cultural wealth are displayed in what is the world’s most impressive parade. All Government buildings are illuminated lending the city the atmosphere of a fairyland. This day is celebrated with much zeal and pride all across the nation.

Today is also Australia Day (previously known as Anniversary Day, Foundation Day and ANA Day), and also referred to as Invasion Day by several groups within Australian society, is the official national day of Australia. Celebrated annually on 26 January, the day commemorates the arrival of the First Fleet at Sydney Cove in 1788, the hoisting of the British flag there, and the proclamation of British sovereignty over the eastern seaboard of Australia.

Saraswati

Saraswati is the daughter of Lord Shiva and Goddess Durga. It is believed that goddess Saraswati endows human beings with the powers of speech, wisdom and learning. She has four hands representing four aspects of human personality in learning: mind, intellect, alertness and ego. She has sacred scriptures in one hand and a lotus – the symbol of true knowledge – in the second.

With her other two hands she plays the music of love and life on a string instrument called the Veena. She is dressed in white – the symbol of purity – and rides on a white swan – symbolizing Sattwa Guna or purity and discrimination. Saraswati is also a prominent figure in Buddhist iconography – the consort of Manjushri.

The learned and the erudite attach greater importance to the worship of goddess Saraswati. As a practice, only educated people worship her for knowledge and wisdom. They believe that only Saraswati can grant them ‘moksha‘ – the final liberation of the soul.

Saraswati’s birthday, Vasant Panchami – is a Hindu festival celebrated every year on the 5th day of the bright fortnight of the lunar month of Magha. Hindus celebrate this festival with great fervor in temples, homes and educational institutes alike.

Different states seem to posses different causes towards the celebration of this festival and follow unique way of celebrating this. In the western part of India where the people usually dependent on the sea, this festival is known to as to worship God Varuna who is the God of the sea. People throw coconut into the sea as a mark that the fishing session is going to be started. Therefore this festival is also called “Coconut Purnima“.

In the south, Raksha Bandhan is called Avani Avittam. At this part of the region it is generally regarded as the festival of Brahmins. The people generally take a holy bath in the river and then change their holy thread which is always attached to their body to indicate that they belong to the particular caste i.e. Brahmin. In this auspicious occasion they read the holy Gita and vows to dedicate themselves for the welfare of the mankind.

It is celebrated as Kajari Purnima in the North India. During this festival time farmers usually seeds the wheat and bali in their farm and it signifies the great devotee of Lord Vishnu and Goddess Laxmi the mighty King Bally. People generally make cake and sweets in their home and they go to the temple to worship the God.

In the eastern part of the country like Bengal and Orissa it is celebrated as the Birth day of Lord Balaram and people worship their cows and cattle to remember the great God was burn amidst them. The most significant incident that occurs in this festival is that sister usually ties a thread of bond “Rakhi” in her brother’s hand expecting that his brother will help him through out her life as a protector and will be there in all her happy and sorrows.

What Makes Christmas So Wonderful, Magical and Enchanting?

With its captivating charm and exhilarating moments, Christmas remains as the most eagerly awaited event of the whole year. It is an occasion for wonderful decorations, unforgettable family gathering, partying, revelry and exchanging special gifts.

Despite a lot of clamor over excessive commercialization, markets, be it a mega-mall or a local store at a city center, are always flooded with bargain hunters and reckless shoppers. Business centers and downtown stores can be found teeming with Christmas shoppers. With the unusual hustle and bustle of activities at any corner of the city, town, village and district, one cannot miss the smell of Christmas in the atmosphere.

Right from the third week of December, super stores, malls, departmental stores and other local retail stores start getting ready with colorful lighting, dazzling and brilliant decorations and attractive adornments. A huge Christmas tree decorated with angels, twinkling stars, tinsels, trinkets and flashing light bulbs placed at the main entrance of the malls makes it an amazing sight for the onlookers and the shoppers, be it children or parents. For most of the shoppers, replicating such a beautiful and giant Christmas tree at home is generally beyond reach.

Lively music and ringing bells coupled with beautiful lighting and decorations create a lively and wonderful atmosphere at the malls. Streets and mega malls are filled with cheerful voices and laughters of hundreds of shoppers and clattering of cash registers in the background. Undoubtedly, Christmas remains as a season of distinct and vibrant ambiance.

Santa Claus is of course an integral constituent at the malls. For the children, meeting with Santa and grabbing gifts and candies is the sole purpose of accompanying their parents for shopping.

Right way to teach the significance of Christmas to children is by way of telling them the stories of Santa Claus and Christmas. Moreover, there is nothing like making the children see and feel Santa Claus in person at the malls and other places. Children should be made aware of the religious importance of Christmas right from early age.

Musical groups and school choirs singing carols and performing at streets, malls, town squares/circles and several other outdoor places are a common sight through out the world. It is an added attraction for the children and passerby to enjoy the lively atmosphere.

Although shopping has its unique charm it makes more sense to devote quality time with family and friends to make the holidays unforgettable. Christmas parties, home decorations, dinners and religious service should remain as the most essential activities of Christmas season. Sharing, fun and frolic with family members are the right way of keeping the magic of Christmas alive.

Exquisite fragrance of Christmas tree and aroma of baking ginger bread and cookies create an aura of Christmas season in the home. Unique scent of natural Christmas tree makes it a preferred choice. It can make a lot of difference in creating a wonderful Christmas environment in the house.

Roasting of chestnuts over an open fire, which was a common ritual at many houses, has almost disappeared. However, scent of baking chestnuts can still be felt at many bakeries and confectioneries in many parts of the world.

Magical Christmas and ecstasy filled with sights, sounds, scents and the hustle and bustle of activities turn Christmas into a truly delightful and memorable season.

It is well known that Indians believe passionately in the theory of muhurts or auspicious times to perform sacraments, to make major purchases or to begin new ventures. Inspite of modern technology and changing lifeviews, this dedication to auspicious time is a prominent feature of Indian life. Akshaya Tritiya is considered one of the four most sacred days of the year.

The word Akshaya means one that never diminishes, and the day is believed to bring good luck and success. It is widely celebrated in all parts of India by different sections of the society irrespective of their religious faith and social grouping. The day is particularly considered auspicious for buying long term assets like gold and silver, including ornaments made of the same; diamond and other precious stones; and the real estate.

The legend states that any venture initiated on the auspicious day of Akshaya Tritiya shall continue to grow and bring prosperity. Hence, it is normal to see many of the new ventures, like starting a business, ground breaking for construction etc on the Akshaya Tritiya Day.

This is my first post on my blog. So let me see how long I will grow with this and how it brings the good luck and the success to me as I started on this Auspicious Day of Akhya Tritiya.
