Benefits of a Propane Heater

I’m sure have heard about propane heaters by now. You might have seen one use at the local garage where you get your car fixed or maybe in a warehouse somewhere. When people think of propane heaters, those are the types of heaters they usually think of.

You might be pleasantly surprised to know that there are heaters that are much smaller than those and that are portable too. Let’s exam a few uses for propane heaters.

Use one as an emergency backup. Do you heat your home with electricity? In many parts of the country, homes are heated entirely by electricity. What if you lost power? What if there was an ice storm that knocks down the power lines. How would you keep your family warm? This is a case where having a portable propane heater in reserve might be a good idea.

You should be able to find a good portable propane heater online for under $150. You probably don’t need or want one of those large type heaters. You may want to buy one that can keep a master bedroom or living room warm. Several heaters in that price range can warm a room that is about 400 square feet.

What is great about a back up heater like this is there compact size and portability. A propane heater will weigh around 20 pounds so it isn’t heavy to move around your home. Most heaters are fueled one-pound propane cylinders. These cylinders will typically give you from 3 to 4 hours of heat. If you need heat for a longer time period, then you will need to connect a 20-pound propane tank to the heater. A 20-pound tank is the same propane tank that you will see supplying fuel to an outdoor grill.

When you go to buy a propane heater, you will have to purchase the propane gas separately. If you chose to use a 20-pound tank, it might be a good idea to add a propane regulator and a propane gauge to it so you can monitor the amount of propane that is in the tank.
